A MESSAGE FROM Aisha's Fundraising Page
Hello family, friends and colleagues! Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I'm fundraising to support the National Black Marathoners' Association (NBMA) for entry into the New York City Marathon held on Sunday, November 3, 2024. My personal goal is to run all six World Major Marathons by my 50th birthday! The NYC Marathon will be my 3rd World Major Marathon (#1 Chicago and #2 Berlin). My fundraising goal is $3,000.
The NBMA is the country's oldest and largest, not-for-profit organization of Black American distance runners. It is open to everyone, regardless of your athletic ability or previous marathon experience. One of their many objectives is to provide scholarships to deserving high school boy and girl distance runners.
I started my running journey in 2012 when I joined the local chapter of Black Girls Run (BGR) where I completed my first (8K) race. Less than one year later I trained to run my first half marathon, the Women's Nike Half Marathon in 2013. I quickly got the running bug and a couple of years later my marathon journey kicked into gear as I trained and completed the 39th annual Marine Corps Marathon in 2014. In 2016, I became a RRCA Certified Adult Long Distance Running Coach and am currently working towards an RRCA Race Director Certification.
To date, I have completed 7 marathons, 13 half marathons and numerous duathlons, 10-milers, 15K, 10K, 8K and 5K race distances. I appreciate you and thank you for your support!
