A MESSAGE FROM Help support AAPI journalists!
As a student several years ago, I told myself that if I managed to find a full-time job in journalism, I’d want to be a part of all of the initiatives to bring people of color into newsrooms — and retain them.
That's because far too often, I’ve looked up the table or around the room and been “the only one,” whether it’s watching Ford unveil its new F-150, covering a central Florida gun show, or more recently, trailing U.S. Senates candidates in Ohio.
The Asian American Journalists Associations helps to bridge that gap. When I was sent on the ground to cover the aftermath of January 6, AAJA’s DC chapter organized sessions with a professional who recognized I could not just “blend in” with the insurrectionists.
So when AAJA’s Frank Bi called with an extra bid for the NYC marathon with just 11 weeks to race day and $5,000 to raise — I said, why not?
Since its founding in 1981, AAJA has been doing the important work of breaking down barriers for journalists of color, and I hope you’ll join me in supporting them.
All funds will go directly to AAJA’s New York and DC chapters — including supporting the next generation of Asian American journalists covering politics.
Thanks for your support!
