A MESSAGE FROM Tom's United NYC Half in support of Stride for Stride
In March I'm running the NYC Half-Marathon - my first race in NYC - in support of my charity Stride for Stride.
This race will most likely be my last half-marathon before I [hopefully] have a kidney transplant in 2023. After the transplant I'll be forced to take 6+ months off from traveling and running with groups.
Through this past year of [almost complete] kidney failure I've proven to myself and shown others that CKD doesn't mean you have to stop doing what you love, and for me that's running. In November I ran three consecutive half-marathons (Cambridge, Boston, & Philly), and though I'm 30 minutes slower than I was a few months ago I'm more grateful than ever to just finish the race.
My dream has always been to run Central Park and now during the United NYC Half - the second biggest race in NYC - I'll run through Central Park, Times Square, and Brooklyn too - the latter being my dad's hometown. I'm very excited for the challenge, and I get to run the race with mi bella esposa, Bridget.
I'm running in support of my beloved Team Stride for Stride and our mission to give people hope, wellness, and empowerment via running. Running is life changing, and for me with end-stage CKD it gives me life more than ever.
All the best to you, and thank you for your support - Tom
