A MESSAGE FROM Barbara Hannah Grufferman
Yay! After four months of not running due to a pretty severe hamstring tear, then a bad bout of COVID, followed by two weeks of RSV (an upper respiratory virus), followed by COVID-induced asthma (oooooh I HATE COVID!) . . . I am now absolutely positively running in the New York City Marathon on November 5th! This will be marathon #15 (all since turning 50), but NYC Marathon #10! Because of my injury and illnesses . . . this year will be mighty slow-going and that's OKAY! I hope you'll consider supporting my fifteenth marathon by making a donation to the Bone Health & Osteoporosis Foundation. We created the BHOF 'Be Bone Strong' Team to help promote the importance of bone health for life and to raise money for the many programs we want to do to spread the message to everyone around the country -- of all ages.
Why am I on the BHOF 'Be Bone Strong' Team?
Millions of people break a bone each year due to osteoporosis, a preventable disease which causes bones to get weak, thin, and brittle, making it easier to fracture if you fall. When my mother fell in 2018, she broke her hip and her health spiraled downward as a result. On July 20th, 2021, my mother passed away.
I am running in the 2023 NYC Marathon to honor her memory and to help BHOF raise much-needed funds to conduct research, programs, and other tools to prevent osteoporosis.
As a proud trustee of the Bone Health & Osteoporosis Foundation, member of the Executive Committee, and Team Captain of the 'Be Bone Strong' NYC Marathon team, I encourage all of you to take good care of your bones by eating well, exercising, getting a bone density test (DXA), and reviewing the BHOF website regularly for up-to-date information about how to keep your bones strong for life!

Thank you for supporting me and for donating to the Bone Health & Osteoporosis Foundation!
