A MESSAGE FROM Jackie Monahan
I am excited to announce that I am running the half marathon this year for the first time ever as part of Team Strides in Recovery. As a coach for Strides, I love pushing the people on my team and myself to run further and further.
Strides in Recovery is a non-profit that supports long-term sobriety by starting running and walking groups for those in their difficult early days of recovery. I always loved running until I found alcohol. Now I am sober and back to running. To me, recovery is the process of falling in love with yourself over and over. Running has helped me with that and I love sharing it with others.
The marathon this year is on March 17, St Patrick's Day. This day is significant to me because it will be my 7 year sober anniversary! As an Irish-American, running on this day is also very special to me. I come from an Irish family of award winning runners and also of alcoholics. This is an integral part of me rewriting my story.
As part of the Strides in Recovery LA Marathon team, I am fundraising to support their programs. Please donate to help me help others rewrite their story. Follow this link to donate. If you prefer cash/check/venmo please let me know and we can work that out.
