A MESSAGE FROM Nick's NYC Marathon Fundraise
6 months after I graduated Chaminade, everything changed.
In December 2018, my father passed away after a battle with cancer.
My 18-year-old self was stunned to say the least, scrambling to find my way at UPenn, major still undeclared.
There were days filled with dark doubts and wicked growing pains — but I was where I was meant to be — where he and my mom encouraged and enabled me to strive. And I was armed with the strength I gained as a Flyer. This is a mindset that has allowed me stay gritty and flourish in the face of challenges — including those I'd never imagined.
Everything at Chaminade goes deeper. The community, the faith, and the discipline are central to my life still, and I don't see that ever changing. Dependent on donations to teach a new generation of students, this is a mission worth supporting.
When I was in high school, I couldn't imagine running more than 3, maybe 4 miles. That's no surprise if you knew me then: a nonstop studier who'd wander off to the corner in gym class. And now I'm preparing for my first NYC Marathon.
I run for everyone who's made me who I am today — and towards the future we will share.
In Honor of Kevin Plante CHS '84 and Grandpa Ed Vierling
