Hello, welcome to my fundraising site for the 50th New York Marathon! Whether you know me very well or not at all, thank you for taking the time to check out my page. One of my biggest goals in life has been to complete a marathon. Running is something that has provided me an outlet in every stage of my life, from being the only kid to ever think of the elementary school “fun run” as actually fun, to channeling my stress over the past year in quarantine into long training runs. And I’m excited to share that, this year I will be participating in the New York Marathon, as a part of the New York Junior League team! While I know I can count on the emotional support of my friends and family to get me to the finish line, I’m also asking for your support in reaching my fundraising goal of $3,500. Keep reading to learn more about the organization, and how I’m checking the number one item off my bucket list, while supporting a variety of community service programs across the city.
When I joined the New York Junior League in the fall of 2019, I was looking for a sense of community, and an opportunity to connect with service organizations across the city. It wasn’t until after I joined, that I realized I could combine my love for running with my desire to help the community by running the New York marathon as a part of the Junior League team. Since joining the team, I have met and trained with 24 other incredible women, all with the same goal to complete a marathon and do some good along the way. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Junior League, I’ve summarized our mission and contributions below:
The New York Junior League is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the
effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. As the oldest all-women and one of the largest volunteer service organizations in New York City, the NYJL has approximately 2,800 volunteers who contribute more than
250,000 hours of service annually. More than 50 committees support the community needs of New York City as well as the institutional needs of the organization. The NYJL’s purpose is improving the lives of women and children in Manhattan by working with community-based organizations and public agencies to deliver services and assistance directly to those in need.
In addition to running 26.2 miles on November 7th, 2021, I will be fundraising in support of all of the great programs that the Junior League supports. The money raised will give students in the literacy program backpacks full of reading material. It will feed groups of children taken out of their homes by ACS Child Protective Services. It will purchase metrocards for disadvantaged teens to cover transportation during career exploration field trips. It will supply gardening and construction tools to clean up local parks and playgrounds. I hope that you will consider donating, to help support me and these wonderful organizations that are making a difference in a time when the world needs it most. And to those of you who do decide to donate, every donation counts no matter how large or small, your support means everything THANK YOU!
Now let’s get running!
