Thank you for taking the time to read and learn about the Foley Foundation and how to donate due to the crazy decision I made to run 26.2 this October.
The
mission of the Foley Foundation is to secure the freedom
of Americans held unjustly captive aboard, prevent future hostage-taking, and
promote journalist safety. Conflict journalist and humanitarian James Foley became the first American
civilian killed by ISIS when the group brutally beheaded him in August 2014.
Since that time, the foundation established in his name carries forward his
legacy of inspiring moral courage in others.
Over the last decade, the Foundation has supported dozens of families through the horror of hostage-taking, successfully secured reforms to U.S. hostage policies that led to the creation of a new government structurally focused on resolving cases involving hostage-taking and wrongful detention of U.S. nationals. Since those reforms were implemented, over 120 Americans have been reunited with their families. Unfortunately, more must be done to free nearly 50 Americans held captive abroad today. The Foley Foundation has also created a journalist safety education curriculum that is in use by over a dozen universities around the world to mitigate potential harm to journalists exercising the rights of a free press.
I am dedicating this run in honor of my brother Kevin. A Marquette grad, he loved to walk the neighborhood, stay in shape, say hello to friends and even stop for a cold beer if time allowed. This one is for you, Kev!
Please support my fundraising efforts for the 2024 Marine Corps Marathon. No donation is too small. Please click on the donate button and support my run and more importantly, The Foley Foundation.
Cheers!
