A MESSAGE FROM Caitlin
Endometriosis is a chronic illness that affects 1 in 10 women. It is categorized as severe pelvic pain, hormone imbalances, anxiety/depression, infertility and chronic pain. It can take up to 7 years for a woman to be properly diagnosed due to limited research, funding and knowledge. Unfortunately, there is no cure, but there are tools such as surgery, hormone replacement therapies, and lifestyle modifications. Regardless, it is an extremely taxing, frustrating and debilitating disease that many women have to deal with on a daily basis.
I have personally battled endometriosis for the past 5+ years in addition to the physical and mental difficulties that come with it. My goal in participating in the NYC 2022 Marathon is to not only raise more awareness, but to fundraise for more research towards endometriosis. I feel very strongly that we need more funding, research and support associated with this illness and women's health in general. Any little bit helps, and would be much appreciated towards completing my goal. Thank you!
