A MESSAGE FROM Brennen's Fundraiser
I'm running the NYC Marathon! And not just that, but I'm doing something good for the world for once.
I’m running for the Bronx River Alliance so they can keep protecting, improving, and restoring the Bronx River Corridor -- one of the largest green spaces in the city.
Here are some bullets about their work because I know nobody is going to read this whole thing:
Creating a fishable, swimmable, and kayak-able river for New Yorkers.
The BxRA is working hard to achieve a genuine non-toxic sludge river to hang out in, swim in, and maybe drink a few beers by, I dunno.
Protecting NYC's only edible food forest.
As in, they conserve and protect the only place in NYC where you can eat real food from the actual ground. Berries. From the dirt. In New York City.
Improving 23 miles of contiguous parks and trails.
Yes, 23 miles of contiguous parks and trails for running or biking. That's 23 miles without having to worry about getting squished by an Amazon delivery truck. If you've ever tried to cycle in NYC then you know how huge that is.
I really didn't believe it either.
But I've seen it with my own two eyes. And I know a guy that works there (thanks, Sid!) That's all to say...
This is really meaningful stuff, especially if you live in New York City (even if you're an hour train ride away from the Bronx, like me), or just care about environmental justice at large. And I'm definitely not even covering every aspect of their work here.
The BxRA will be putting your money to good use -- and I promise I'll think about you at least once while I'm running 26.2 miles this November.
Wow, okay that's a lot. Thanks for reading!
