In 2006 I ran my first NYC Marathon. In 2010 I convinced my fiancé – turned husband – to run the NYC Marathon with me. We ran for an organization dear to our hearts, Reach Within. Founded by Karen Lawson, a dear friend of ours, Reach Within serves children, adolescents, and young adults in Grenada who have experienced chronic or acute trauma, including abuse, violence and climate related disasters.
I began my road to recovery on September 5, 2003. This year I turned 42 and celebrated 21 years of continuous sobriety. In reflecting on this accomplishment, I net out at the reality that recovery defines my roadmap for living. After having our three children I had a new body to acquaint myself with : and I met her on the trails of Mount Tamalpais. I found a love for running and a joy in my body again as I regained strength and resilience: physically and emotionally. When I heard from Karen that there was an opportunity to fundraise in order to run the NYC Marathon this year there was no question in my mind – I was ready to commit to the cause. For Reach Within and for me.
It is my hope that you will support me in meeting my goal of raising $6000. Your donations will go towards the following Reach Within programs: Self-Regulation Program, Caregiver Certification Program & Transitional Living Program. I look forward to returning to the streets of NYC on November 3rd to see through 26.2 miles!
