A MESSAGE FROM Alonso Mago’s Parkinson Fundraiser
Why am I fundraising for Parkinson? How can I explained 9 years of Parkinson and Parkinson Dementia in just a few sentences?
My father Alonso Mago woke up one morning at 70 years old and told Mom; “looks like my 70th birthday brought another gift: I think I have Parkinson; I have a tremor in one hand”
My parents have lived in our home for over 11 years enjoying the love and warmth of 3 grandkids in the house. Out of those, Dad lived with Parkinson 9 years, and started hallucinations on year 5 and on year 6-7 doctors diagnosed him with Parkinson’s Dementia. My father passed away at the age of 79 on February 26, 2023 after a long and brave fight against both Multiple Myeloma Cancer and Parkinson’s Disease Dementia. I thought Parkinson was “only” about movement/stiffness but it can be so much more traumatic for the family when you add dementia.
I’m running for my Dad and to raise awareness, and money to help families in Houston that have a loved one with Parkinson and HAPS (Houston Area Parkinson Society) is a great organization to improve the quality of life of those with the disease.
