A MESSAGE FROM Run NYC with JD for Expect Miracles
I am thrilled to have the opportunity support the Expect Miracles foundation and represent this charity at the New York City Marathon on Nov 5th. This charity is a special organization and provides an avenue for those in the financial services industry to make an impact for families impacted by cancer. In the next 10 days leading up to the marathon, my goal is to raise $7500. Any contribution of $100 will be matched twice as I will match every contribution over $100 up to $2500 and my company’s matching program at John Hancock investments will match as well. So any $100 contribution provides $300 for expect miracles.
I am running in honor of one of the best people I’ve had the privilege to know, Brent Huppert. Brent and I volunteered to coach our sons’ soccer team four years ago. Brent was the kind of man everyone wants as a role model for their son. After coaching together for a year Brent, let me know he had been fighting cancer. The diagnosis did not stop him from showing up and poring himself into the kids on our soccer team. It was beyond inspirational to watch as he invested in this group of boys tirelessly, despite not being well. The soccer season wrapped up in November, and Brent passed away in December 2019. No one has exemplified for me how to set an example and make an impact on those around you than Brent. Brents, sons, Christian and Nico are two of the most humble boys, who treat everyone around them with immense respect. They are a true reflection of how great a father Brent was.
I am also dedicating this marathon and these fundraising efforts to one of my closest college, friends and teammates, Scott Redfield. Scott was a veteran of the financial services as well for T Rowe Price. Scott could bring a smile to anyone’s face with his sense of humor humor and exuberant love of 80s music and running. Scott, unfortunately took is own life late this summer,
but his family and friends miss him dearly. If Scott would’ve had the opportunity to run this race and support a charity, no one would have been more dedicated.
Thank you for your generous donation to Expect Miracles Foundation's TCS New York City Marathon racing team. Funds raised will benefit Expect Miracles Foundation's three signature programs: cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and Samfund grants and advocacy to support young adult cancer survivors who are struggling financially.
