I signed up for the Milwaukee Marathon the year Covid struck, needless to say, it was cancelled. I was kind of bummed but also felt a relief. BandWith Chicago started in 2013 when the band program was dropped from LEARN Campbell Charter School in East Garfield Park due to budget cuts. Executive Director, Annie Palomino started this nonprofit allowing her to continue providing free music instruction within LEARN Charter and expand into an after school program. Since then, BandWith has developed into an independent organization that offers individual and small group music instruction, weekly ensemble play, and performance opportunities to participating youth throughout the year. BandWith’s free in-school and after-school programs serve 145 students annually and are located within the East Garfield Park community.
