On July 4, 2025, twenty-seven girls lost their lives in the floods at Camp Mystic. My cousin, Mary Grace Baker, was an extraordinary, creative young girl. She lived each day with a zest for life, leaving each person she touched with a smile. Mary Grace was one of 27 beautiful, brave young girls whose lives were tragically taken that day. Each girl was unique, yet all were remembered for their kindness, generosity, and the way they lifted others up with love and joy.

To carry that spirit forward, their families created the Heaven’s 27 Foundation. This Foundation is a dedication to our girls, who lived their young lives as examples of faith, joy, kindness, and love. Through this foundation, we hope to honor their memories by investing in the lives of others and continuing the legacy they left behind.

This December, I will be running the BMW Dallas Half Marathon in honor of Mary Grace and the other 26 girls. Running 13.1 miles is something I never imagined I would do, but having a reason bigger than myself makes every mile worth it.

I am running for Mary Grace—for the joy she brought into every room, for the life she deserved to live, and for the impact she continues to have on all of us who love her. I am also running for the 26 other girls whose lives were taken far too soon.

My goal is to raise $2,700 for the Heaven’s 27 Foundation. Every donation, no matter the amount, is a meaningful way to honor these girls and help carry their legacy forward.
