A MESSAGE FROM Alison Pepero
If anyone knows me, they know running is my passion. Recently I have been running to complete all of the world major marathons in the US. The last marathon on my list to complete is the TCS NYC Marathon. When registering for the marathon, I came across an option to run for a charity. Ever since my sisters passing, I have been running for a bigger purpose and giving meaning to my races.
In 2017 my sister Sarah was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. At only 28 years old, it left my sister and our family in the state of shock. This was not something that was in our family, nor something we saw coming. After emergency surgery to remove the cancer and radiation, my sister lived cancer free for the next four years. Unfortunately in 2020, the cancer came back with a vengeance. Spreading to multiple major organs, cancer quickly took my sisters life away from us at only 31 years old. Since the day she left us, our family has never been the same. There’s a large piece of our hearts that will never be the same.
I am sharing my sister’s story in hopes to help not only cancer patients, but the families and friends that are affected by it. The memory of her infectious smile is what keeps us going every day, and help from organizations such as The Red Door Community.
This November I will be running the TCS NYC Marathon in honor of my sister and to support The Red Door Community. The Red Door Community services everyone and anyone impacted by cancer: newly diagnosed, patients in treatment, post-treatment, and their families. It is a safe place for patients and families, just like mine, to go to get the help and support they need. Please join me in supporting The Red Door Community; and help support patients and their families fighting cancer. I ask you to please consider donating to The Red Community. Not only for me, but for all of the patients and their loved ones still fighting cancer today. Every gift counts and your support makes a difference. Thank you for supporting me and The Red Door Community. Run On!
