A MESSAGE FROM Hannah's 2024 NYC Marathon
Thanks in advance for contributing to my marathon adventure. I decided that in honor of turning 50 this year I wanted to do something momentous, and what could be more fun than the iconic NYC marathon? And what better charity to run for than the Girl Scouts?
I was a Girl Scout for many years as a kid and am very proud of the project I did to complete the Silver Award--organizing a blood drive in my community. I used to spend hours perusing the lists of badges--they always seemed like the door to new information and adventures.
Fast forward in life and my daughter is now a 4th generation Girl Scout (enjoy the wonderful photos of my mom and grandmother). She's been in troop 4482 in Jackson Heights, Queens since she was in kindergarten (5 years!), and I've loved supporting her and her troop over the years. Highlights have been watching her and her troopmate plan and lead two badges (Bugs! Animal Habitats!) together, and of course her amazing sales and marketing skills during cookie season. It's so incredible to see watch the girls grow and take on new challenges, and to be a part of our community in this way. Also, something really special about Girl Scouts of Greater New York that makes me proud to run for them is Troop 6000, which is a troop for girls experiencing housing instability in the NYC shelter system.
As far as the marathon part of this, well, I've been running for years and while I've done many shorter races, this will be my first marathon. I'm really in it for the adventure (aka, not going fast!) and the challenge. I appreciate your support of me and Team Girl Scouts NYC, an official charity partner of the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon!
