A MESSAGE FROM LiverMan 100 + NYC Marathon Fundraiser for Chris Klug Foundation
NYC Marathon
I am excited to say I am running this year's NYC Marathon for the Chris Klug Foundation (CKF)! I am thrilled to take on this challenge; there is no bigger stage than the New York Marathon. I am proud to represent CKF, which works to eliminate the wait for a transplant by inspiring and educating individuals to register as organ donors. Over 103,000 individuals in the US are waiting for a lifesaving transplant. They need us to register as organ donors. Unfortunately, while 96% of Americans claim to support organ, eye, and tissue donation, only 54% register. I hope that by racing the marathon, I can shine a light on how vital saying yes is! Please show your support by making a donation as I take on this mammoth challenge.
The NYC Marathon has been something that my brother, Luke, and I have talked about taking on together for a few years.
At age 16, I was diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis and PSC. Eventually, it was determined that I’d need a liver transplant and on June 19th, 2017, my incredibly generous and selfless Aunt Dana donated part of her liver as part of a live donor transplant. While in the hospital post-transplant, Luke and I talked about how we wanted to run a race together once recovered and now, we’re ready to make that happen!
One of my goals post-transplant has been to do as much as I can with this second chance at life and in doing so, I hope to inspire others around me and in the transplant community to live their fullest and most active lives. I'm excited to run the NYC Marathon on behalf of the Chris Klug Foundation- let's eliminate the wait!
LiverMan 100
LiverMan 100 is a 100 mile triathlon born out of a desire to take on a challenge that was right on the cusp of what I thought might be possible for myself. On June 15th, we'll be hiking up Pike's Peak, biking down Pike's Peak and 89 miles north to Chatfield State Park where we'll be swimming 1.2 miles along the shoreline to the swim beach for a proper victory celebration (followed by a lot of sleep). While coming up with the idea for the race and in sharing my excitement about it with others, more and more friends and family have joined in to take on this incredible challenge with me and for that, I am so appreciative and grateful! By taking on LiverMan 100 I hope to raise awareness of the powerful, life changing gift of organ donation and raise money for the Chris Klug Foundation so that together, we can eliminate the wait. I'd like to extend a huge thank you and shoutout to the sponsors of LiverMan 100: Kinship Landing, Dis Burrito, Sap's, BUBS and Slate for helping make this possible. A huge thank you goes to the Kinship Landing team for all their generosity and partnership in putting on the LiverMan 100 kickoff party (June 14th, 6-8pm) in their amazing space. And another huge thank you goes out to my Aunt Dana for giving me a second chance at life as well as all my friends and family who have helped support me over the years, including this ridiculous endeavor. I greatly appreciate any and all donations and support- thank you so much in advance!
