While thinking about turning 50 next year I decided I wanted to do something that would be a challenge both physically and mentally. I learned about Project Athena through my colleagues at Express Employment Professionals and decided that this would be a great opportunity to give back and to challenge myself personally. Many of you may know that I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis a few years ago after going through several very painful months trying to determine what was happening to me. Through working with my specialist and the personal determination that this would not be the factor that commands my quality of life I have been able to minimize the impact. Two years ago I started a weight loss journey and to date I have lost 80 lbs. which has changed my life in an astonishing way. I love to be outdoors and seek physical activities such as hiking, kayaking, swimming, yard work and walking. Additionally, the mental impact has been equally as profound as the physical.
We are starting down the home stretch in our 16 weeks of training. I have learned so much about myself in the past few weeks and I have already accomplished more physically than I thought possible. The changes in my body and mind have been an amazing blessing. I am so excited to be sharing this experience with two of my best friends! Please join me in supporting the Project Athena Foundation. Project Athena is a 501c3 non-profit foundation dedicated to helping women survivors of a medical or traumatic setback achieve their adventurous dreams as part of their recovery.
