A MESSAGE FROM JD's 2022 NYC Marathon Fundraising Page
Hi friends!
As many of you probably know, I love running and it's been a huge part of my life once I became too washed up to play organized sports. Running is my happy place and it's helped me through the good times and bad. It's given me the opportunity to work with students and give back to the city that I love as part of Students Run Philly Style. Go team MileUp!
I have run a couple of marathons but it's long been a dream of mine to run in one of the major marathons and I was lucky enough to be given this chance through the Release Recovery team. And I say I am lucky because it's an organization that is truly out there making a difference and providing services to one of our countries most vulnerable populations.
Addiction is unfortunately something that has most likely impacted each and every one of us in some way. Everyone has a story of a friend, family member or even themselves that have struggled with some type of addiction. The Release Recovery Foundation is out there making a difference in our community - providing resources and services to individuals that want help but do not have the means or opportunities to get the help that they need.
I am proud to be part of the Release Recovery Foundation team and will be running this marathon in memory of one of my childhood best friends (TJ) whose life was cut too short after his battle with addiction. Drugs suck. But I am hopeful that with organizations like Release Recovery, donors like yourselves, and hopefully some long overdue policy changes (!!) - there will be a day when people are able to get clean, stay clean and live their lives to the fullest.
Give Thanks. Live Life. Release.

Substance abuse and mental illness destroys the lives of too many people from underserved communities who may not have the resources for proven treatments.
