A MESSAGE FROM Jessica's 2024 TCS New York City Marathon Fundraising Page
I started running after my father died on May 29, 2021. Sifting through the memories of the way he supported me, I remembered that he took off work in the early 1990s to come watch me run the mandatory mile in elementary school gym. Having asthma, I was afraid and tried to get out of it (by having him, as legal counsel to his eight year old, make the pitch to the principal). When that didn't work, I ran the slowest mile of my entire grade with Dad sitting on the hood of his car parked on the other side of the elementary school chain link fence.
I decided to see what I could achieve as a runner with Dad supporting me in spirit. I've run hundreds of miles and two half marathons since then. Fittingly (and maybe as a sign from above, if you believe in that), I found out that I'd have the opportunity to run the TCS New York City Marathon on the third anniversary of my Dad leaving this earth. I hope to make him proud this November 3rd by running 26.2 miles and raising money for the wonderful CityParks Foundation!
You can support me and the mission of the CityParks Foundation by donating through this page--no amount is too small! Thank you!
