I am running this NYC Marathon to support an organization I love dearly: Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA)!
For those of you who havenβt heard much about AAJA: This is a nonprofit organization with over 2000 members across the U.S. and Asia. Since its founding in 1981, AAJA has been at the forefront of change in the journalism industry, working towards the visibility and inclusion of AAPI journalists in newsroom leadership, and towards equitable and accurate coverage of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) and AAPI issues.
Just like many of my peers, I have benefited from AAJA in so many ways: AAJA taught me how to fight for diversity and inclusion within my organization, AAJA offered me an opportunity to lead before I became a manager at work, AAJA led me to new opportunities and challenges, AAJA gave me both mentorship and friendships. It is truly a community that dares to change the world and cares for each other.
It has been eight years since my last marathon in Chicago. I wonβt lie that getting back to long-distance running is not a small task. But I am excited to share this journey with so many friends, family and strangers ;)
Join me to support the Asian American Journalists Association and say βhell yeahβ to greater AAPI representation and voices in media!
