A MESSAGE FROM John
On Sunday, March 19, 2023, I will be running the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon in support of the Children's Brain Tumor Project Foundation (fka as Elizabeth's Hope).
For those unfamiliar, Elizabeth was one of Katherine's best childhood friends and was tragically diagnosed with an incurable brain tumor in 2010. Soon after this diagnosis, Liz and her family created Elizabeth's Hope, which eventually grew into a dedicated lab for the exploration of rare, inoperable, and often incurable pediatric brain tumors at Weill Cornell. This initiative is known as the Children's Brain Tumor Project today.
While I only met Liz once, I have had the pleasure of getting to know her both indirectly through Katherine and directly through the organization at several fundraising events (that many of you attended!) over the past 10+ years. Liz's commitment to launching this community during what must have been the most difficult months of her life speaks to her unwavering commitment to others - a quality embodied by her family's decision to biopsy (and subsequently donate) her tumor to the lab, which single-handedly helped uncover important genetic information about gliomatosis cerebri and continues to inform state-of-the-art precision medicine at labs all over the world.
Your donation directly supports the research underway at Weill Cornell Medicine. Thank you.
