A MESSAGE FROM Josh Guild's BroSis Marathon Fundraiser
I began running seriously just after Thanksgiving 2023. I had run sporadically in the past--a few months here and there, with no particular rhyme or reason, but always put it aside when the seasons started to turn or when a minor injury arose. But in late November last year, I decided I needed to challenge myself, to lock in on something hard, and stick to a plan. I set an ambitious goal, one that I knew would truly test me. And in April, I completed a half marathon in Brooklyn, my first ever race.
But even as I logged those tough winter miles preparing for that first race, I had something bigger on my mind. Although I dared not speak my dream out loud, I knew for certain that I wanted to run a full marathon, to do it in the city I love, and on behalf of an organization that I believe in deeply.
With your help, in two months, I will realize that vision.
I am honored to be running the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon in support of The Brotherhood/SisterSol (BroSis), a transformative, holistic Harlem-based youth development organization with a global reach. https://brotherhood-sistersol.org/about/
For more than two decades, I have admired, followed, and supported the work of BroSis, having first gotten to know their visionary co-founders, Khary Lazarre-White and Jason Warwin. I have had the opportunity to meet many of their dynamic and inspiring youth members and the dedicated staff who guide them through rites of passage, after school, college and career readinesss, and evironmental programs. I've listened in awe to the stories of the organization's international study programs in countries across the African diaspora, including Brazil, Ghana, Egypt, South Africa, the Dominican Republic and Haiti. And after living nearby for several years, I saw firsthand the impact BroSis has had on the Harlem neighborhood surrounding their remarkable headquarters.
In this, my 50th year, I'm excited to join the BroSis team and to return to New York City to run my first marathon in honor of this vital organization and the young people it serves.
I would deeply appreciate any and all support in my fundraising efforts. No donation is too small. Please click the donate button. Thank you.
In Solidarity,
Josh
