A MESSAGE FROM Control what you can control, and let the rest go. πŸ’š

We may all be runners, but we are different people with different experiences & emotions that are all valid. Check out why team CRA4MHA is running to promote mental health in our local community HERE. πŸ’š

I would say that my intentional journey towards better mental health officially started with my first therapy session just over a year ago. I wanted to learn how to be the best that I could be so that I could stop hiding behind the mask (ppl pleasing πŸ˜…) & start offering my best to my girls, my hubs, my fam, & my friends. I also wanted to learn how to better communicate with my family - honestly to minimize the stress, heartache, and yelling! We've started to share our feelings and thoughts out loud as we have them so that we don't leave others around us assuming/guessing (which has usually been the wrong thing πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ). It felt so hard at first, but it really is a simple concept and so much more efficient. πŸ€ͺ We are still learning, & some days are easier than others... but we can only get better.

Yes, I still have a LOT to unpack πŸ˜…, have had low lows, high highs, and everything in-between, but they are all real. And I hope to continue to share my experiences with y'all to remind us that we are all HUMAN, & we are not alone.

Whether it's navigating within my inner self or my relationships with others, sometimes it's tough to see that glass half full, but if you practice good mental health and surround yourself with a network you trust & love, you will always manage to find the sunshine behind the clouds. 🌞

MHA of Greater Houston, established in 1954 by philanthropist Ima Hogg, is the area’s longest-serving mental health education and advocacy organization focused on shaping the mental health of people and communities in the areas of children and education, integrated health care, veterans, and community education (and for those who are local, check out Ms Hogg's former home at Bayou Bend Collection & Gardens)!

With roughly 3 million Houston Metro residents who self-identified as, β€œstruggling with a mental health concern during the pandemic,” chances are high that someone you know will benefit personally from your compassion.

MHA of Greater Houston actively works to replace stigmas about mental illness with compassion and proper treatment. Their work:
β€’ Provides education and training for the community
β€’ Removes barriers to mental healthcare
β€’ Facilitates change in systems
β€’ Advocates for legislative solutions
β€’ Addresses the vast need for public mental health services
β€’ Links people to mental health services

You can learn more about MHA of Greater Houston and their services HERE.

Also, many companies have matching gift programs and will match charitable contributions made by their employees, so please consider submitting a match request. This may double (or even triple) your contribution!

We greatly appreciate your gift and look forward to crossing the finish line with you in January 2024! πŸ’š

Karen, thank you for focusing on Mental Health. It is a problem that people suffer with in silence due to societal stigmas. Shedding light on it will go a long way to encouraging people to come out of the shadows and get help.
