A MESSAGE FROM Kathryn's NYC Marathon Campaign for Crime Victims Treatment Center
Crime Victims Treatment Center (CVTC) provides critical resources and support to victims of sexual assault and interpersonal violence. From crisis counseling to individual and group therapy and criminal justice advocacy, CVTC is committed to helping survivors through every step of their journey.
I was inspired to run the 2023 NYC Marathon on behalf of Crime Victims Treatment Center after reading "Know My Name" by Chanel Miller. She was known to the world as "Emily Doe" when she stunned millions with a letter. Brock Turner had been sentenced to just six months in county jail after he was found sexually assaulting her on Stanford's campus. Her victim impact statement instantly went viral, was translated globally, read on the floor of Congress and inspired changes to California law and the recall of the judge in the case.
In "Know My Name," Chanel Miller reclaims her identity, telling a story of trauma, transcendence and the power of words. I believe that her vulnerability and honesty about the tumultuous reality of healing provides an intimate and accurate perspective on what it means to be a survivor of violence.
I am honored to run on behalf of Crime Victims Treatment Center and appreciate any contribution, big or small, that you can make to support their work for survivors.
