This fall, I’m running the Marine Corps Marathon with my Aunt Joyce - it will be my first marathon and her sixth!
While training, I'm raising money for the Alzheimer’s Association, the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support, and research. They work to advance global research, promote early detection, and maximize quality care.
My grandmother, Frances Hickey, passed away from Alzheimer's in 2014 and I’m running in her honor. She was deeply loved, and this is one small way I can help carry her memory forward while supporting others facing this disease.
I’m also dedicating this journey to my mom, Karen Hickey, who shows up every week with love and strength as she supports her own mother through Alzheimer’s. Watching her walk this road has been both difficult and inspiring.
Alzheimer’s disproportionately affects women. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, nearly two-thirds of Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease are women, as well as about 70% of the unpaid caregivers for people with Alzheimer’s. I’m training and fundraising to honor the women we’ve lost, those still fighting, the caregivers, and the women who inspire us to keep going.
I’m especially proud to be running alongside one of those inspiring women, my Aunt Joyce, whose resilience and support remind me just how strong women can be.
This cause means a lot to us personally, and your support, big or small, makes a real impact. Thank you for joining us in this fight. Together, we can end Alzheimer's.
