Why am I fundraising for EMC?
EMC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for everyone, everywhere. They do this by raising awareness about the maternal health crisis, investing in community-led solutions, and advocating for critical systems change. Basically, they raise money, give it to locally run maternal health organizations and birthing facilities who provide culturally and contextually appropriate support to mothers and babies. I'm a big fan of their work and have seen firsthand the impact these grants have on individual's lives while volunteering at Mama Baby Haiti.
On a more personal note...
My own labor and delivery journey was less than ideal and really brought home how critical reliable healthcare is. While this was my north star before I feel more fired up and committed to ensuring everyone has access to a comfortable and safe environment to birth in and am using my voice and time towards that cause.
