Why am I Running?
Growing up in a family and wider community affected by alcoholism, I learned from a young age how disruptive and painful substance use disorder can be. The journey to recovery can be challenging not just to the individual, but for all of their loved ones too.
I am grateful to be where I am today; my own healing journey and my experiences have made me very outspoken and open about addiction and mental health. Conversations around these topics are becoming more and more transparent, but there is still much work to do in unlearning stigmas and letting people know that "it is okay to not be okay.”
What is The Release Recovery Foundation?
The Release Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to ensuring all who are ready and willing to seek professional treatment, are able to do so. Substance Use Disorder and mental illness destroy the lives of too many people from underserved communities who may not have the resources for proven treatments. 90% of those suffering are not able to access treatment due to financial barriers.
The Release Foundation offers scholarships to bridge the gap between what people can afford and what they need to transform their lives, regardless of race, gender, and/or sexual orientation. These scholarships can go toward residential treatment services, extended outpatient treatment, intervention, counseling, and more.
Why $15,000?
The average scholarship granted for a single person’s recovery journey is $7,500.
$15,000 ensures life-saving care for two people who might otherwise not be able to afford treatment — an unbelievable thing to grant someone.
Any donation helps!
