Hi friends! I am PSYCHED to be running the 2022 New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 6!
When I moved to New York City nearly 5 years ago, I started a yearly tradition of going on a run in Central Park the day before the marathon to “experience the vibes” of the marathon setup. It’s a pretty special feeling to run down the last section of the race as the crew hangs flags from every country that will be represented in that year’s field. It’s going to be even more epic on race day :)
AND! I’m so excited to be running in support of an organization that has been incredibly important to me: the Girl Scouts! I was involved in the Girl Scouts for many years and have countless amazing memories and friends (and songs still stuck in my head) from my experience as a Girl Scout. So, when I was offered the chance to run for the Girl Scouts of Greater New York and help support them in their mission to provide programming and leadership opportunities for over 25,000 girls, I was an immediate “yes!”. Here are a few of my favorite things that GSGNY is working on right now, which I’ll be supporting via my fundraising:
Troop 6000: Troop 6000 is a Girl Scout program specially designed to serve girls in the New York City Shelter System. Each week, Troop 6000 meets in shelters across the city and gives girls the opportunity to make new friends, earn badges, and see themselves as leaders in their communities, all led by Troop Leaders also living in the shelter system paired with community volunteers.
Camp Kaufmann: Located in Dutchess County, Camp Kaufmann welcomes over 5,000 New York City Girl Scouts each summer, some of whom have never left their own borough before this experience. As a Girl Scout camp attendee myself (with a collection of tie-dye shirts to prove it), I love that this is available to girls in New York City.
If any of this speaks to you too and you’d like to contribute, it would mean the world to me (and lots of little me-s!). And if a monetary donation isn’t available for you right now, I would love your support virtually or in-person cheering for me and the rest of team Girls Scouts on race day. Look out for more to come on that as it gets closer :)
Thank you so much in advance for your support!
