I am absolutely ecstatic to run on behalf of Steel Magnolia Moms for year #9 of running the Chevron marathon. Each and every year I select a different charity to run on behalf of BUT I actually ran for Steel Magnolia Moms in 2022 and they stole my heart so much, I am running for them again! What captured me about this charity is the reason and purpose of its ordination. The founder of the charity was in a nail salon and overheard two moms planning a trip to Disney. The two moms joked as they stated that they wanted to use a wheelchair to cut lines and/or obtain perks for disabled children. Astonished, the founder (of whom has two children with disabilities) took to social media regarding her frustration. Almost immediately, the outreach from thousands of other moms and the community had reached out with support! This is how Steel Magnolia Moms was born. This amazing charity was created to support moms of children with special needs by providing community support, online support and direct support through programs and events for the moms and children. This awesome group provides a family connection to each and every mom of the organization as a reminder that they are supported and not alone in their journey. As many moms of children with disabilities may lose their sense of self and/or not focus as much on their needs due to the love and care that they are providing for their amazing child/children. My goal is to help this charity obtain the support, exposure and funds that it so greatly deserves by fundraising and running on their behalf (again!) with your help.
