A MESSAGE FROM Lisa Cowgill
I am honored to be part of DetecTogether’s TCS New York Marathon team for 2023. Their mission is to teach people how to catch cancer early, when it’s most treatable. DetecTogether teaches a simple, 3-step strategy for detecting early signs of cancer. They teach in schools, present to community groups, and to those at high risk, like firefighters. They empower people to get better healthcare overall. Their life-saving presentations and information are delivered at no cost, thanks to the kindness and generosity of donors.
I lost my mom 7 years ago to an aggressive form of esophageal cancer. She found out late, when the cancer was stage 4 and had already spread to her kidneys and liver. We got the news in April of 2016 and lost her a few months later on August 30th. She would be here today if she had gotten an early diagnosis. Losing her was devastating for our family. My father, brother, sister-in-law and I miss her every day. I don't want other families to go through what we went through, it’s why I’m choosing to run once again for this amazing organization and speak about early cancer detection. As part of running the New York marathon, I will also be raising funds and ask for your support as I tackle this challenging course a second time. My fundraising goal is $5,000 - a donation of any amount will make a huge difference. Please click on the donate button, or send your tax-deductible donation to DetecTogether (53 Otis Street, Westborough, MA 01581) and indicate my name in the memo line on your check. Together, let’s make a difference in the fight against cancer.
