A MESSAGE FROM Luc’s Fundraising Page
About me:
My name is Luc Zoratto from Toronto Canada. I’m more than just a dad, husband, and marathoner; I’m also on a journey of sobriety. After years of battling Alcohol Use Disorder, I made the life-changing decision to go alcohol-free. I finally had the courage to prioritize my mental health over what I imagined others expected of me. It was not easy, in fact it was extremely difficult. I struggled, but I reached out and got the help I needed. This shift transformed me, igniting a path to personal growth and enabling me to tap into my true potential. Long way to go, but on the right path. It’s been a wild journey to say the least.
I’m proud to say that I am 7 1/2 years sober from drugs and alcohol. It’s completely transformed my life. My proudest accomplishment is I got sober before my daughter was born. She will be 5 in September. I’m driven to inspire others to embrace positive changes before they hit rock bottom or complicate their life any further.
Running marathons has become my thing, my escape, my passion. I’ve run 6 marathons in the past 3 years. It’s helped me find a new purpose and identity. My sobriety and my running journey make me better, plain and simple.
Running all 6 world majors has become a goal of mine ever since I qualified and ran The Boston Marathon in 2022. Now getting the opportunity to run The New York City Marathon with Release Recovery Foundation is an incredible opportunity to do what I love while raising money for a great cause.
While I’ve met the qualifying criteria for NYCM missing the cutoff only fuels my belief in fate. I believe everything happens for a reason. Now I’ve got the chance to run for a cause that’s close to my heart, and it’s so much bigger than just me and my race times. It’s about making a difference, pushing my boundaries, and stepping out of my comfort zone. That’s where the real growth happens, not just as a runner, but as a person and I couldn’t be more excited. I need to raise a minimum of $5,000 USD to secure my spot on the team which is no small feat. I am nervous and excited about this opportunity. Like my journey, I will take it one day at a time.
About the Charity:
The Release Recovery Foundation is a 501 (c)3 non-profit dedicated to changing how the world treats, supports, and views recovery. They make addiction and mental health treatment accessible and build a welcoming community for everyone seeking purpose and connection.
Release Recovery Foundation is a non-profit ensuring that anyone ready for professional treatment can get it. They provide scholarships to help those in need, especially in underserved communities, get the necessary treatment regardless of their financial situation.
Their mission aligns perfectly with my values of breaking the stigma around recovery and providing resources for those ready to make a change. Running the NYC Marathon for this cause is my way of making a significant impact and supporting a mission I believe in wholeheartedly.
Your support means the world to me. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those struggling with addiction and mental health issues.
Thank you,
Luc
