I am honored to be running the United Airlines New York Half Marathon for Girl Scouts of Greater New York. This organization is close to my heart because it is an organization that I am actively a part of and I see firsthand how much positive impact it has on young, impressionable girls who are the future. I have been a Volunteer Troop Leader with Troop 6000, a Girl Scouts of Greater New York Troop, since May, 2022. When I moved to New York from South Carolina I knew I wanted to get involved with the community. On social media a friend from South Carolina shared a popular post circulating about Troop 6000. The post shared that if people were looking to buy Girl Scout Cookies to consider buying them from a troop that is made up of young girls in New York's Shelter System. This truly resonated with me and was fate that I had seen the post because I had just moved to New York City. I immediately applied to be a Volunteer Troop Leader and started the extensive Troop Leader training shortly thereafter. Being a part of Girl Scouts of Greater New York, and specifically a Leader for Troop 6000, is an honor and a privilege. It is an incredible experience to be around such amazing, intelligent girls who have taught me so much. Troop 6000 serves girls in shelter systems across all five boroughs of New York and we aim to instill Girl Scouts with confidence, courage, and leadership.
