The Who:
It costs $2,500 to provide one child support for a year and $5,000 to serve two or more siblings.
The mission of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Cook County
is to advance foster care child advocacy for children in Cook County by
ensuring that their needs are met, and rights are protected; by
transitioning out of foster care into permanent, safe, and loving homes
as quickly as possible; and that youth aging out of foster care have the
resources and support they need to live independently.
The Why:
I am running for the CASA of Cook County as a thank you. I was introduced to the CASA organization a couple of years ago through a close family friend, Holly, who has graciously volunteered for a number of years in the Bay Area. Not surprising to anyone who knows her, Holly kept in touch with one of the girls she worked with. At the end of 2020, Holly got a call from her with the news that her beautiful lab mix was pregnant and due at the end of the year. Knowing that I was looking to adopt a dog, Holly connected us, and I got the chance to get to know her and her family as we watched the litter run around. It was a quick decision to adopt Lemony, now known as Lola. We continued to keep in touch as we got closer to adoption day, and I love to send her updates on how Lola has grown up over the last two years.
I am unbelievably grateful, as Lola means the world to me, so I am taking this opportunity to pay a little back to an organization that played an important part.
Furthermore, to show my commitment, I will be donating $1 for every mile trained, which will show up on the donation page every month.
