A MESSAGE FROM Megan
Please support my fundraising efforts for the 2022 New York City Marathon Fundraising in dedication to my mom Maureen Merola who was diagnosed with Glioblastoma. No donation is too small! Please click on the donate button!
On august 13th my mom experienced a major seizure that doctors say could have killed her. The next day, she was in the hospital. After hours in the emergency room, she and my dad were told by doctors that there was a mass on her brain. 3 days later, she went under for emergency brain surgery. That surgery took place the day before my move-in for my freshman year of college.
That same night, the doctors called my dad and told him it was glioblastoma, which is stage four brain cancer. My dad had to move me into college and make sure my sister Alexis was okay (she is going into her senior year) all without being able to see my mom. Once my mom and dad were finally together, the doctors went over all of the statistics and treatment plans with them. My mom was given a life expectancy of 12-14 months. There is a 3% chance of long term life which is 3 years and less than a 1% chance of survival beyond that.
I know my mom is in that 1%. My mom went through 6 weeks of chemotherapy and radiation and is now on a year long chemotherapy treatment plan. Since her diagnosis, every member of my family’s life has been flipped upside down, but we continue to fight each day with hope and faith in her recovery.
My mom, my best friend, is the most amazing, strong and beautiful woman in the world to me; I am beyond proud to call myself her daughter. In dedication to her, I will run the NYC Marathon on 11/6 with the brain tumor foundation. My fundraising goal for brain cancer research is $5000 and any contribution you can make is so appreciated.
