A MESSAGE FROM Michelle
Dear Friends,
I committed to running the 50th NYC Marathon in my 50th year a few months ago but it wasn't until today 8/25/21 that I was compelled to send out a note of support for my effort on behalf of Every Mother Counts. Every day there is another harrowing story in the news about women (mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, aunts, friends) in danger of experiencing an unsafe and unhealthy pregnancy and childbirth due to natural disaster, political turmoil, poor healthcare or distance to healthcare. At the outset, Every Mother Counts promised to help prevent as many maternal deaths as possible by ensuring that women, the world over, have access to quality, respectful and equitable maternity care. To date, we have invested $21 million in public education, community engagement and grant making. We teach women to advocate for themselves and their families in even the most difficult circumstances. Our goal is to touch and improve as many lives as possible (1 million people served so far!) through small actions that make big differences. That's where you come in... just a small (or less small) donation has a big impact. Please give what you can, but here are some ideas:
$78: Can provide a prenatal, third trimester home care kit with blood pressure monitor cuff and urine test–enabling women to get prenatal information to providers without risking exposure.
$150: Can help a community-based doula organization provide new moms with groceries and diapers.
$500: Can help equip a midwife or doula with technology and training to provide telehealth support to expecting moms.
$1,500: Can help cover the costs of receiving virtual support throughout pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum period for one low-income woman.
$5,000: Helps staff a maternal health support hotline for pregnant women during COVID-19.

I am so lucky to have had two very normal and uneventful pregnancies of my own and I am grateful for the freedom to run on behalf of the women and children who need our help. Please support my fundraising efforts for Every Mother Counts / TCS New York City Marathon Fundraising. No donation is too small. Please click on the donate button!
