A MESSAGE FROM Running for Adoption, One Child at a Time
22 years ago, my parents traveled to China to meet me for the first time at a state orphanage after losing two of my brothers to a rare heart disease. With the help of the Gladney Center of Adoption, they adopted me not long after and brought me the life I have now.
Not all kids are that lucky, with many never finding their forever families and eventually aging out of the system at age 14. Looking back, I cannot believe how fortunate I was to find my parents and how grateful I am to Gladney for helping facilitate. Over the years, I have worked with Gladney to highlight China’s little known aging out adoption policy and the growing number of special needs children being abandoned and waiting to be adopted, including through the production of my 2015 documentary.
The orphans left behind in China are why I am running this year's marathon. If more resources and awareness are raised for Gladney, more children will have a chance to find permanent homes and lead better lives.
Please consider donating to my marathon fundraising campaign to support Gladney's operations and mission. Any contribution, big or small, marks a step in the right direction for the cause.
