A MESSAGE FROM Olivia’s Run with Jack’s Fund
Dear Friends and Family:
As a survivor of malignant melanoma… This. Is. Personal.
I'm running to find a cure and raise awareness. Did you know one person dies every hour from melanoma? That's why I decided to make my marathon more meaningful and support Jack's Fund. If you or someone you know has had precancerous cells removed or have experienced a melanoma diagnosis, you already know how important it is.
If you have been fortunate so far, let me explain why Jack's Fund needs your donation.
1. Early detection saves lives. Melanoma can form anywhere (eyes, lips, under nails, ears, between toes, in your mouth).
2. Melanoma is the second most common cancer for young adults ages 15-29.
3. The risk of being diagnosed with melanoma doubles with five or more sunburns at any age and exposure to tanning beds in youth increases that risk by 75%. College campuses are being target by the tanning industry and need to be stopped.
4. Limit UV exposure outside during 10am-3pm: seek shade, wear sunscreen, sunglasses, hats.
Since the risk of melanoma affects or has affected each and everyone one of us, the work that Jack's Fund is doing to:
- Provide awareness programs in schools, park districts and health clubs.
- Advocate for restrictions on the tanning industry.
-Support the building of shade shelters on youth sports fields.
-Support families touched by the disease...no one fights alone.
-Fund cutting edge research.
Please choose a level below to help support change:
$30 = The rates of melanoma have been rising for the last 30 years.
$54 = One person dies every 54 minutes from melanoma.
$106 = 106,110 New cases of invasive melanoma were diagnosed in the US in 2021.
$250 = Average fee charged by dermatologist's office for a skin screening.
$800 = Melanoma costs over $800 million to treat annually.
No amount is too small!
Thank you so so so so much for your support!! And if you’d like to come cheer me on please let me know!!
