A MESSAGE FROM Pete's Fundraising Page for NYC 2021 in Memory of Paula Hamann
In November of 2019, a truly special person, dear friend, and colleague, Paula Hamann, lost her courageous fight with cancer. For anyone who knew Paula, they knew what a fighter and competitor she was. Before she passed, a good friend of ours, Sarah Segesdy, asked Paula what charity she would want us to support for her, and she immediately said The Herren Project. She was very passionate about The Herren Project and loved to compete in races with her son, Will.
The Herren Project was founded in 2011 by former professional basketball player, Chris Herren, who has been in long-term recovery since August 1, 2008. The Herren Project is a national nonprofit providing free resources and support for the treatment, recovery, and prevention of substance use disorder. They raise funds and positive awareness for addiction through athletic fundraising events.
I was lucky enough to be able to teach, advise, and coach (in soccer, basketball, and track) both Paula's sons, Will and Jack, at Worcester Academy. She loved her boys with all her heart and was so proud of everything they did.
Please consider a small gift in memory of Paula for the Herren Project as I tackle the NYC 2021 Marathon for her!
