I decided to do a crazy thing and sign up for the 2022 New York City Marathon! I couldn’t be more excited and prouder to be running with NAMI-NYC (National Alliance for Mental Illness). We live in a time when society has, fortunately, become more aware of mental health, yet we still have a very long way to go. I wasn’t sure how personal to make this message at first - but the truth is that it was my own struggles with anxiety that propelled me into my running journey - and pushed me to become stronger (both physically and mentally) than I have ever been before. When I started running in March of 2020, I could barely run 3 miles, but even after that first daunting run I found my breath deepen and my mind settle a bit. Central Park became my haven and running became my lifeline, and an incredible source of strength.
Like running, mental health is a journey, which is why I am truly so honored to be able to run with NAMI - an organization whose core mission is to provide advocacy, education, support and public awareness so that all individuals and families affected by mental illness can build better lives.
I would like to thank everyone for your generous support for this amazing organization - and I hope to see you out there on race day!!! LETS GOOO!!!
