On May 18th, 2019, I will be participating in the Eagles Autism Challenge. This event is dedicated to raising funds for innovative research and programs to address the complex issues presented by autism. As many of you may know, I am currently an occupational therapist in a school district, where the majority of my caseload has a diagnosis of autism, so this event is very important to me. The Center for Disease Control estimates that 1 in 59 people under 21 living in the United States are on the autism spectrum, making it the fastest growing developmental disorder. With further research and advanced scientific breakthroughs, we can help transform the lives of those affected by autism today. As one organization can’t do it alone, the Philadelphia Eagles are partnering with Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Drexel University, Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health. The research founded will then be shared nationally and globally, so that everyone affected by autism can benefit from our collaborative efforts. This event aims to inspire and engage the community, so together, we can provide much needed support to make a lasting impact in the field of autism.
