A MESSAGE FROM Rebecca's Fundraising Page
Please join me in supporting the crucial work Sandy Hook Promise does to protect our children from gun violence. Sandy Hook Promise is a national nonprofit organization founded and led by several family members whose loved ones were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. Sandy Hook Promise aims to reduce gun violence through legislative policy reform and violence prevention education programs. To date, this incredible organization has trained more than 14 million youth and adults in 14,000+ schools and helped write and pass the bipartisan STOP School Violence Act in 2019. Gun violence is an ongoing public health crisis in the US that demands consistent collective work toward proactive solutions.
I began volunteering with Sandy Hook Promise in 2016 and I feel so honored to support this mission. I am a mother of two boys, Sebastian (age 6) and Bear (age 3), and believe there could be nothing worse than losing a child. Gun violence is preventable, and it's our responsibility to address this tragic problem.
This will be my 3rd NYC marathon; I last ran it in 2011 and thought that would be my last 26.2 venture. However, a friend encouraged me to take on a little more distance and I continue to explore what I'm capable of. Running lights up my life, and I can think of nothing better than using my mileage and training towards fundraising for this charity that is near and dear to my heart. I run in honor of Dylan Hockley and Daniel Barden, and so many others who should still be here. I have so much gratitude for those who have made it their life's work to fight for a safer world for all of us.
