A MESSAGE FROM Fundraising for the Brain Injury Recovery Foundation
As many of you already know, I’m Renny Cabreros and I live in Los Angeles where I work for New York Life Insurance. I am a father to two amazing boys, Jacob (10) and Lucas (8).
Our lives were changed dramatically on July 20, 2017, when my wife and the mother of my boys, Loura Alaverdi, was walking on a sidewalk on Madison Avenue in Manhattan when she was struck by a vehicle. The driver had experienced a seizure due to cocaine and tramadol intake, and his car veered off onto the sidewalk and struck Loura. As a result, she suffered from many severe traumatic injuries, which involved a traumatic brain injury that included diffuse axonal injury. As a result, she experienced various medical complications over the years, and finally, she tragically passed away on December 30, 2022.
Last year I ran the New York City Marathon to not only accomplish something for myself but to also inspire my boys, and raise funds for a wonderful charity that provided support to those who experienced grief and loss. This year in continuation of me running marathons in honor and in memory of Loura, I will be running the Chicago Marathon and fundraising for the Brain Injury Recovery Foundation (“BIRF”). Because of all of the medical complications that Loura experienced, I have developed a passion for those affected by neurodevelopmental and neurocognitive disorders, including those resulting from a traumatic or acquired brain injury.
I am both honored and grateful to be running the Chicago Marathon for an organization that I share an extremely personal connection to. Thank you so much for your donation to BIRF and please know that no matter how big or small your contribution is, it is truly appreciated. In addition to running in honor and in memory of Loura to support BIRF, I am also inspired by my Uncle, Clarence Cabreros, who experienced a stroke seven years ago. I have always looked up to him, even more so now as he has been a beacon of resilience during his recovery.
