A MESSAGE FROM Sophia
On October 23, 2013 I was awakened by a phone call from my doctor at 7:30am. My heart stopped upon hearing his voice because no doctor calls you from their home at that hour just to say "Hi". A week later I was in an office at the Weill Cornell Hematology Oncology Department learning about Aplastic Anemia.
I'm a nerd geek so after that appointment I went down the internet rabbit hole. The reason they call it a rare disease it's because well, it's rare. And that includes finding information about it, until I found the National Organization for Rare Disorders.
Nine years later I am in remission and as a 50th Birthday goal I decided to run the NYC Marathon and use this event to give back to the organization that lit the way not only for me but for my mother and father as they became impacted by their own rare disorders.
I hope you can help me reach my goal and give thanks to an organization that guided me through one of the hardest paths in my life.
