A MESSAGE FROM Sophie's Fundraiser for Harlem Lacrosse for the 2021 NYC Marathon
Hi everyone!
I am so excited to announce I have decided to run the 2021 NYC Marathon with Team Harlem Lacrosse!!
Harlem Lacrosse is a school-based youth organization whose mission is to provide opportunities, relationships, and experiences that activate the skills and traits to put youth on a path to success as students, athletes, and citizens. For ten years Harlem Lacrosse has been a catalyst for educational access, equity and belonging in the lives of youth. As a supporter of Harlem Lacrosse I share their belief in the power of opportunity for all youth. No matter a child’s family income, zip code, the color of their skin, how they identify or what language they use at home, they are all deserving of pathways to success. Harlem Lacrosse's sports-based youth development model empowers students to become lifelong learners and achieve the goals they set for themselves by providing wrap-around programming that includes daily study halls, mentoring, push-in academic support and tutoring, admissions counseling, leadership training, service-learning, career exploration, college trips and character-building lacrosse instruction and competition.
The NYC Marathon plays a vital role every year in making Harlem Lacrosse’s year-round programming available to over 1000 student-athletes in New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Boston and Los Angeles. As I train to run on behalf of Harlem Lacrosse's NYC Marathon Team, I am inviting you to join me in making The Harlem Promise. I promise to support Harlem Lacrosse's commitment to work alongside youth and families from the time they join this program in middle school to build pathways to college and career success.
Lacrosse has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. From playing on my elementary school team coached by my dad, to playing at Bowdoin for all four years, Lacrosse has been a constant source of joy and an avenue for development in my life. I recognize the powerful impact Lacrosse can have on young people, and Harlem Lacrosse exemplifies that impact perfectly. I will be running alongside my former Bowdoin teammate, Allie Williams, (GO BEARS!) and we are so excited and honored to be fundraising for this cause.
Your support of my 2021 HL Marathon Team is a commitment to The Harlem Promise and I look forward to what we can accomplish together on the field, in the classroom and in our communities. Thank you for your support!!
