This is the first time that we are running together as a team, and for this Mother's Day, we are running a 10k race to raise important funds for Every Mother Counts. 

We are Dean, Amira, Tarek (16) and Zayd (13) and we want to make the world a better place for mothers: EMC helps women in the US, but also in rural areas around the world, in refugee camps, in war zones and in remote places in the world where access to healthcare is difficult. Thanks to EMC, more women are able to gain access to proper prenatal and natal care. Currently, too many mothers lose their lives simply trying to give birth safely.

Before Tarek was born, Amira lost her first child, a daughter, at 38 weeks of pregnancy, and in delivering her, hemorrhaged intensively. She required emergency intervention, in a moment of true emotional pain, and two blood transfusions, but she was saved by her excellent physician in a renown NYC hospital. Not every mother is this lucky, even in a moment of terrible loss.

This will be Tarek and Zayd's first race for EMC... hopefully the first of many more to come to honor each and every mother around the world. There is a saying in Arabic, that says: "Paradise lies beneath our mother's feet." We would be nothing without the love and sacrifice of our mothers and mother figures.
