The Savannah Irish Festival is proud to honor our friend, Colleen Scarry Settle, who was diagnosed earlier in 2023 with stage IV.
Colleen's story is below:
"After having some GI issues earlier this
year, I was eventually diagnosed with Stage IV ovarian cancer. I also found out
that the cancer was caused by the BRCA2 gene mutation, which also causes breast
cancer and melanoma, among other cancers. I’ve had surgery to remove the
ovaries, tubes, uterus, spleen, and part of my colon and rectum. I’ve completed
one round (6 treatments) of chemotherapy. I’m currently waiting on the results of a
CT scan to determine the next steps. My sister battled Stage IV melanoma many
years ago and has recently received treatment for carcinoma. "
