The Epilepsy Foundation Texas’ goals include ensuring access to specialized medical care for those most in need, providing experiences to enrich the lives of individuals and families living with epilepsy, and delivering easy access to reliable information, resources and support services. Current Foundation activities include the following programs:
Ø Medical Services – Specialized medical care is provided to over 1200 patients each
year at nine clinic locations across the state. Low income patients with
no insurance and nowhere else to turn for service receive all clinic visits,
diagnostic testing and prescription drugs at no cost.
Ø Children Services - Families of children with epilepsy receive advocacy, education,
social and support programs. Also provided are three, free, one week
residential camps: Camp Spike ‘n’ Wave, Kamp Kaleidoscope, and Camp
Neuron serve over 300 kids with epilepsy each year, the largest camping program
for kids with epilepsy in the country. In addition, there are two,
free weekend Family Camps.
Ø Community
Education – In the 2019 – 2020 school year,
the Epilepsy Foundation will work to ensure that over 700,000 school personnel
are trained through Sam’s Law which requires that all Texas school personnel
have seizure recognition and training.
Ø Support and
Activity Groups – Adolescents,
adults and parents gather to meet others coping with similar issues, make
friends, and gain support from the experiences of others.
