Play has never been more important. The
COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated an already-existing gap for children’s access to
sports and physical activity in low-income communities. Active play is vital to
a child’s holistic development, but the cost to play keeps children in need on
the sidelines.
Good Sports tackles the financial barrier to play by
providing new sports/fitness equipment, apparel and footwear directly from
the sporting goods companies, such as Under Armour and Nike, to youth
organizations in low-income communities.
In response to the pandemic, our Restore Play initiative provided $15 million in new equipment through at-home Play Packs and equipment
for physically-distanced play. With nearly 80% of youth served being children
of color, Good Sports made a significant impact on communities
disproportionately impacted by the pandemic.
The 2022 Chicago Marathon team will support Good Sports’ mission to
increase access to play for children in need in Chicago and across the country. Thank you for helping us
get kids in need in the game!
